20 Firms To Sign MoU On Brunei Halal Initiative

The Ministry of Industry and Primary Resources (MIPR) will sign memorandums of agreement with 20 established Australian companies on the Brunei halal initiative.
This was revealed last night by Dato Hamdillah H A Wahab, MIPR Deputy Minister. He was the guest of honour at the welcoming dinner reception for the launching of the Brunei Halal Brand and the second International Halal Expo 2007.

"Twenty foreign companies are ready to sign on to the Brunei Halal initiative tomorrow.
"This is a clear testimony of the level of trust and confidence Brunei Darussalam enjoys today. I hope this partnership will not just bring commercial value for all parties, but also at the same time will help us deliver, without compromise on the halal, safety and quality of products and services to the world.

"Brunei Darussalam will offer its halal certification to products, both from local, as well as other countries.
"These products, however, will need to comply with our strict halal standard and guidelines, including the guidelines for Brunei Halal Brand.
"These documents will be issued this week and will serve as a reference to Brunei Darussalam Halal Certification.

"In moving forward, we will be pushing for value creation. We will complement our strengths by partnering with quality and established foreign companies. We very much welcome foreign investors to our land to explore ways and means to mutually benefit from the vast opportunities of the global halal market. Brunei Darussalam, with its strong Islamic credentials, will bring real value to such partnerships.

"There are more than two-and-a-half times more participants in this year's international halal seminar and expo compared to last year.

"The initiative will open many doors for our local SMEs, especially those in the food sector, to grow and succeed. Our SMEs can certainly use Brunei Halal as part of their branding exercise to penetrate the global halal market. They can ride on it in forging partnerships with the more established foreign companies to achieve higher benchmarked performance," he said.
File urged local SMEs to use this as a platfonn to network and develop a business partnership during the business matching sessions in the next two days.

Three hundred guests comprised of local SMEs and foreign exhibitors participating in the 211 International Halal Product Expo 2007 (IHPE) and MIPR officials attended the reception.

Also present was the chairman of the organising committee, MIPR Permanent Secretary, Dato Paduka Haji Mohd Hamid bin Hj Jaafar.

The International Halal Products Expo 2007 is co-organised by the MIPR, Ministry of Religious Affairs and Ministry of Health from Aug 16-19 at ICC, Berakas. It will showcase halal products and services in and out of the country. A two-day seminar on Aug 18 and 19 will follow at the same venue. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin
